CD Reviews

A good survey
02/11/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a very reasonable survey of Caterina's early recordings (1954 to 1958 plus one from 1975). It lacks her two major first hits -- Malaguena and The Breeze and I -- which are available on another disc from Amazon. I collected a lot of Caterina's 45's when I was stationed with the USArmy in Germany as she was just beginning her career, and this disc will let me replace some awfully worn Polydors. The playful side of Caterina is most evident in C'est si bon, and her brother joins her for two tracks. A really serious packaging flaw is the omission of the bands accompanying her. Kurt Edelhagen and Werner Muller are represented, but I don't know about many tracks. Anyway, buy this one and enjoy the work of a major talent!"
Wunderbar = excellent

(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you are the type to be bold and experience a real music, please listen to some try-outs (of hers) through out the net, and you will come back to buy this CD, it's really fantastic, specially if you are open-minded to international taste, not necessary snob but real music for the masses and not just for experts in music to explain if she sang on C major and so on... you will feel like being next to granny or grandpa while Caterina's music is on, I still remeber listening to her only recorded US show with late Bing Cosby, what a remarkable show, you won't go wrong on this one, every penny is well spent in this album (CD), believe me!

Ms. Valente is just one of a kind, so unique... and so hard to see her class nowadays!"
