The legacy of Carl Schuricht has been slow in coming to disc. Coming from a musical family and later a student of both Max Reger and Engelbert Humperdinck, Schuricht was an artist of tremendous talent, intelligence and taste. During a long and productive life, Schuricht stood at the helm of virtually every major orchestra in the world, including the Concertgebouw, Vienna Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic, London Philharmonic in addition to serving as chief guest conductor of the SDR (now SWR) Orchestra from 1950 to 1966. All of us at Hänssler Classic are proud to present what is the FIRST of a projected series of recordings of this great conductor.
