CD Reviews

Excellent reunion album

"There were alot of great reunions in 1990 (Allman Brothers, Hatfield and the North, etc.) and this was one of them. This is a reunion of the original line up of Hastings, Coughlin, Sinclair and Sinclair. Even Jimmy Hastings is along on sax and flute. The songs are played with great energy and having Jimmy Hastings adds a new depth to the songs that didn't appear in other Caravan live recordings. Every song is a winner, especially the 20 minute Nine Feet Underground. Even For Richard is refreshing. That is saying alot considering that it is on every other live Caravan album in existence. Note that this is the only decent Caravan album since the early eighties. Be sure to skip any of the other live albums from the eighties or nineties. They don't contain the original line up and they are just plain boring. For the unitiated: Caravan was one the British progressive bands to come out of the Cantebury music scene in the late sixties. The group had a warped sense of humor with album titles like If I Could Do It All Over Again, I Would Do It All Over You, and For Girls Who Grow Plump In The Night. After the fourth album, the group's line up was constantly changing, except for guitarist Pye Hastings and drummer Richard Coughlin. Even with the constant personnel changes, the group kept a fresh, exciting sound until the eighties. Somewhere in the early eighties, Hastings changed direction of the group, and his song writing hit rock bottom. The later songs are boring and just drone on."
Tremendo sonido progresivo. Tremendous progressive sound.

"Caravan es una de las bandas europeas que combina elementos del rock y jazz progresivo. De esta combinación resulta un producto profundo y con gran sensibilidad que sólo las grandes bandas producen. Estan a la par con Solution, Kayax y Focus. Definitivamente, un gran grupo y éste un gran disco.Caravan is one of this european groups which combine elements of rock and progressive jazz. From this combination we got a wonderfull product of great sensibility that only great bands can get. They are head to head qith Solution, Kayax and Focus. Without any doubt, a great band and a great CD."
