Celibidache at his worst

"Anyone who is interested in this recording most probably is well acquainted with Celi's extremely lugubrious tempo and murky tone. His peculiar style works in the interpretation of Bruckner, Tchaikovsky, and perhaps some of Brahms' works. But Haydn? Combine his extremely slow tempo and gloomy tone in the interpretation of Haydn, and then the youthful freshness, vitality, and clarity of Haydn are all vanished away. What you get is Requiem of Haydn which he never wrote. Don't spend a single penny for this recording. Listen Collin Davis or Eugen Jochum. By far they are the best interpreters of Haydn's symphonies in general, 'Drumroll' in particular."
