CD Reviews

Essential for Bruckner fans
David Keyes | Minneapolis, MN USA | 05/28/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Well, if you are not a Bruckner fan, how did you get here? This was the first of Celibidache's Bruckner recordings I bought, and have been looking for more ever since. His way with Bruckner is unique. It is probably 15 minutes longer than any other recording, but you'll wish it was even longer! The attention to dynamic and rhythmic detail, and the sense of drama, is unparalleled. You can hear so much more here that gets buried everywhere else. After listening to this recording, all other Bruckner 5's will sound pale in comparison."

"Celibidache is probably one of the two or three most important conductors of this century and his Bruckner is unsurpassed.Another good presentations of this symphony is Jochum on Tahra"
Not for clock watchers!

"Celibidache?s Bruckner is not for the faint hearted. Not for people looking at the clock for inspiration. No instant gratification here. Celibidache?s Bruckner is like a rare single malt, best savored slowly in private. Where hopefully you will experience something revelatory, that you may not so easily be able to put your finger on."
