CD Reviews

A pretty good album and the correct songlist
Misao | Osaka, Japan | 01/09/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"As an Japanese-American living in Japan, I can tell you that BUMP OF CHICKEN is a good example of a popular band in Japan right now. While this isn't their latest album, it's still representative of their interpretation of J-pop. Their music isn't like Puffy AmiYumi's happy/bouncy style, but is a more varied balance between slower, sweeping statements and faster, heavier songs. The vocal/guitar, Motoo Fujiwara, who has a very unique voice, simplistic but moving at the same time, also writes all of the lyrics for the band. The lyrics are written like stories, and are always easy to relate to. Overall, their style and image is what makes BUMP OF CHICKEN my favorite Japanese band.

Although Amazon listed many songs as 'Japanese Title', most of the song titles are in katakana, Japanese characters used for writing foreign words, and represent English titles. Song #2 is the only song which is completely Japanese. The title, pronounced Tentaikansoku, which translates to Astronomical Observation. Also, #5 is a name of a flower, pronounced Harujion in Japanese, which is a kind of aster in English. But the rest of the songs are all English titles written in Japanese.
