A real rocker

"The first time I heard "Lit Up" I knew I was buying this album. And after listening to it over and over again I had a new favorite band. To me Buckcherry is what Rock n Roll should be. They have the charismatic front man who knows how to sing and yell in key. They have a guitarist who knows a rock songs not about how many notes you play but the way you play them. They also have great songs and aren't afraid to say whatever they feel like saying.

This band with this album should have been huge. HUGE! One reason that didn't happen was they didn't fit into any radio format. The classic rock stations wouldn't play them because they were new(not old and boring), and the alternative stations wouldn't play them because they rocked too much. Another reason that didn't happen is their record label went belly up after they released their second album.

But no matter, I was hooked. There are so many good songs on here. The album kicks off with "Lit Up", which you don't have to be high on coke too appreciate. Next is "Crushed" which is probably my favorite song. Just a take no prisoners rock romp. After that is "Dead again", which along with "Dirty Mind" are the two fastest songs. "Check your head" starts slow and builds as it goes, dealing with teenage suicide and drug overdose. A great tune.

"For the Movies" is about breaking up and moving on. "Lawless and Lulu" is another favorite of mine and will make you want to get up and dance..."crazy about your love." Lawless is followed by "Related" which, if you were already dancing you will continue to do so. "Borderline" is the slowest song on the album. The "let me see your lighters" song as the crowd sways back and forth. "Get Back" is Rock n Roll perfection.

If I had to pick a least favorite song it would be "Baby". It's not terrible, but it's not great. The last song is "Drink the Water". Like "Lit Up" it's about drugs but not as celebratory. It has some nice slide guitar playing and is a good way to end the album.

If you are looking for a hard rocking album with great songs and attitude then look no further.

"Bottom line, this is an incredible debut... rock and roll swagger galore... many many solid classic, solid production, and attitude to spare... these guys were the real deal when the exploded on to the LA scene during 1990's - get ths now !!"
