CD Reviews

2 Nice Rare B-Sides
B. Stanley | Shorewood, IL USA | 01/14/2003
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Since apparently everyone with a CD player seemed to be issued a copy of "The Rising" in the mail, the reason collectors would want to buy this is for the 2 Bonus tracks. First is the live "Spirit In The Night" from Barcelona. This is just a solo performance by Springsteen at the piano, not with the full E Street Band, but it's a very nice version of the song (and it's quite funny when Bruce realizes he's messing up one of the verses). The other live track is "The Rising" from MTV's VMA awards, which is not all that different from the album track, except that the performance seems to drag.
This is a nice bonus for completists to have, but definitely not essential Springsteen."
Two more great live songs, and music video shot in Asbury Pk

"Bruce does a great job with Spirit in the Night, live in Barcelona, and The Rising from the Video Music Awards has a different beat that almost makes it more enjoyable to listen to. The Lonesome Day music video is presented in multiple formats so chances are it will play on your computer. The song from the music video is actually a little different from the album version, as we hear Bruce actually singing as the video was being shot."
