Amazon.com Everyone's favorite Texas polka tricksters are back, still having fun after 21 years on the job, and with an ever-expanding, but still joyous, vision of music. There's the usual hilarity--Foreigner's "Double Vision" presented as slinky tea-dance music--but also plenty of seriousness and musical ability. The band ventures very confidently into the bolero-son arena with "My Tears Are Nothing," a piece that could do justice to Buena Vista Social Club, and intelligent pop (which is not an oxymoron) on "For Me." Of course, it simply wouldn't be a Brave Combo album without some polka, and that gets served up particularly well on "Golden Opportunity" and "Why, Oh Why." But with ventures into R&B and Tex-Mex, not to mention one very warped easy listening instrumental, there's something wonderful for almost everyone, all wonderfully played--it's always worth noting that these guys are great instrumentalists. The Process is somewhat of a departure for Brave Combo, a band known for its incredible musical range and devotion to a variety of musical styles, including cha-cha, waltz, rhumba, cumbia, salsa, merengue, guaguanco, ska, conjunto, and, of course, polka. Those musical influences are still there, but sublimated. The song, not the style, has finally taken primacy.The Process is further proof that Brave Combo and do anything, and is a good introduction to the fun and crazed world of Brave Combo."
