"Horenstein's uniquely refined Andante, both delicate and lyrical expresses the Symphony's theme better than any other version I've ever heard. The tempi throughout are a tad swifter than Klemperer's, often regarded as the best version, but the LSO follows the conductor's lead with elan and precision - the horn playing is magnificent.The sound quality on this CD release rivals the excellent original RCA/Reader's Digest LP set for clarity, detail and definition. Some tape hiss is there; indicative of the Chesky engineer's wish to retain much of the original's brilliance. One of my own personal desert island classical recordings. A must for those who love Brahms and admire Horenstein's unique talents at the podium."
