Classic Treble choir and MORE!
Jesse Carnes | Baton Rouge, LA USA | 02/14/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In my estimation, no vocal music has the clarity of tone, or the perfection of pitch of Treble choirs. This CD features one of England's finest hand-picked Treble choirs of all time: The Boys Air Choir.

I have owned this CD from England for a few years now.

The vocal ensemble is called the Boys Air Choir. However, the real stars of this British youth ensemble are 3 of the venerable Burrowes brothers, and in this case, it is: Connor, Edward, and Patrick, This CD especially features Edward Burrowes and he sings the lead on the title song, Blue Bird. Blue Bird is sung completely "a capella" (no instrumental accompaniment). However, this is no detraction, for this CD shines as a testimony of what the human voice is capable of, even with no instruments.

The voice of Edward Burrowes is transparent and almost flutelike in sonority and the entire ensemble sound as if they were, indeed, musical instruments, implementing Treble and Alto parts to indescribable heights. This CD is FULL of beautiful, ethereal, unforgettable vocal music, but the title song, alone, is worth the price of the CD. There is little doubt that this rendition of "Blue Bird" is one of the FINEST vocal performances in recording history, to be sure. The PITCH and TONE of this group is astounding and even the harmonics proceeding their pitches are perfect. This is definitely a must buy CD.

Can't help but be impressed

"While I didn't find this CD quite to the peak level of the Boys Air Choir Requiem, it is in its own way moving and impressive work. These are dedicated and focused young performers led by someone hardly older than themselves but gifted with the ability to organize, direct, and feel the music. It was, however, the work of a developing artist more than a tested one, taking it to, in my opinion, occasional excess. I can live with such a flaw because it promises much for the future."
Excellent recording of Boys Air Choir

"We heard one band of this CD on PBS radio, ordered the CD from Amazon, received it in three days. It's a great recording throughout, one that we're enjoying very much."
