Synopsis

Product Description
Bow Wow Wow was Malcolm McLaren's (RIP Bless him) first big project after the Sex Pistols imploded, and the erstwhile media manipulator made sure his new band bounded onto the scene with a whole gaggle of gimmicks. The first was Annabella Lwin, a 14-year-old Burmese immigrant McLaren found working in a laundry and decided to remake into a post punk goddess. Then there was what used to be Adam's Ants, the trio of Matthew Ashman (guitar), Leroy Gorman (bass), and Dave Barbarossa (drums), whom McLaren introduced to African music -- specifically, the sound of Burundi tribal drumming -- then induced to dump Adam and follow him. But it was the product that ultimately pulled the package together. Bow Wow Wow's cassette-only first single, a home-taping anthem called C-30, C-60, C-90 Go! . RCA turned the Bows over to a proven hit-maker: Kenny Laguna, who converted the band's Burundi beat into a jazzy Bo Diddley groove and gave it a near-hit with a remake of the Strangeloves' I Want Candy . This collection brings together the best cuts from the BMG years with b-sides and rare recordings, Sleeve notes by Mojo s Daryl Easlea provide a great insight into the history of the band and with the passing of their manager Malcolm McLaren there is no better time to revisit the great recordings by this band.

Teenage Queen EP On CD With Mediocre Sound Quality
G. Ratcheson | Washington | 08/03/2010
(2 out of 5 stars)

"Got it today. I have to agree with the reviewers on Amazon.UK, the sound is pretty mediocre. This album did sound tremendous on vinyl (at one time i owned a Japanese pressing), & both cd's sound pretty mediocre here. Though at least it doesn't sound compressed/brickwalled. Sinner Sinner starts a couple seconds into the song, & while not mentioned in the Amazon.UK reviews, the liner notes are beyond lame.

Most importantly, it includes "Teenage Queen" & "Eating Raw Flesh" from the Japan only 12" which to the best of my knowledge has never been on cd before (Cowboy from the ep is included also). Teenage Queen actually was written for a Japan clothing commercial & (if I remember correctly) uses the music from the band's "Baby Oh No". CD #2 also collects a few singles & 2 1993 re-recordings. CD #1 is a poor mastering of their best album, See Jungle.

At the same time, I got it for under $10 USD, & I'm looking at it as paying $9.50 for the Teenage Queen ep on cd."
