CD Reviews

Indeed, if you don't know Boston, you don't know Classic Roc
Jonathan Mares | New York | 07/29/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"There are many good reviews for this records: take a look for yourself, 260 good ones to about 20 bad ones. As far as the bad ones go, you never what style of music they like; they may not listen to rock at all, but be Hip Hop or Classical enthusiasts. It is just so wrong to say that Boston is cliche and uninteresting. First of all, the fact that people still listen to this music 30 years later means a lot; many bands don't even live past 5 years (look at all the pop, hip-hop, and so called "rock" bands that play on mtv and on the radio). Boston has one of the most interesting music ever played. It is complex, melodic, harmonic, and beautiful. Just compare the guitar tabs with for example "Boys like girls" music. Boston's music is very difficult to play, while this so called modern rock boys like girls is simple and repetitive. In fact, this is the only album I have listened to that I like every song on the album. It is true that the future quality of the music has declined, but for people who say that Boston is short lived and not dynamic, I disagree once more. If you listen to Corporate America, none of the songs have the bright feeling of their first album. Not to say it is worse, it is just different. "I had a good time" is their best "new" Boston song, which is equally as worth buying as this album. There is also no way someone can see Brad Delp is bad. His voice is like Freddie Mercury's. It is powerful and impossible to immitate. Besides that, who else invented his own recording equipment? (I am talking about Tom Scholz). This band is a must for every Classic Rock listener. There is no possible way a person who likes music like The Eagles, Queen, Pink FLoyd, Led Zeppelin, or The Police can say that this does not belong in a classic rock collection.

And yes I live in New York, and no, I am not a Red Sox fan."
A Re-press That Does The Original Justice
Noah W. Woods | Murphy, NC USA | 11/30/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"One of the few problems with vinyl coming back into prominence is that Quality Control of these new pressings is lacking at times. I've got a re-press of a Metallica album and a Beatles re-press that on the first play had some defects that caused crackling.

Not so with this one. This pressing was perfect straight out of the sleeve, and I was very surprised to find it was a 180 gram 'virgin' pressing at that, which helps. Another comment is that unlike some re-presses and re-masters, this one did not have problems of low-playback volume. The person who cut the original master lacquer of this re-press really knew what they were doing, as they knew how much to crank the mastering volume while still keeping everything a little closer to the outer edge of the record.

Buy this re-press of a fine album, but make sure you've got hi-caliber equipment to play it on. You won't be disappointed then. A hi-quality re-issue like this demands nothing short of hi-end audiophile-level playback equipment to fully enjoy it and preserve it."
