Synopsis

Album Description
Three years in the making, this definitive compilation features all of the 1920s and 1930s novelty Jazz songs that were later covered by The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band on their albums and singles in the 1960s. The Bonzos featured both the eccentric Vivian Stanshall and a pre-Rutles Neil Innes. They also worked with members of Monty Python and appeared in The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour. This unique compilation features the best original versions of songs made famous by the band including "Hunting Tigers Out In India", "Dr. Jazz" "Jollity farm", "Ali Baba's Camel", " By A Waterfall", "I'm Going To Bring A Watermelon To My Girl Tonight" and "Mickey's Son and Daughter" amongst others. Recorded by original 1920s and 1930s artists such as Jack Hylton, Billy Cotton, Whispering Jack Smith, Guy Lombardo and others, the recordings on this CD are a wild and whacky trip through the crazy music of an era that was perhaps even more famous for its hedonistic excess than the 1960s! 27 tracks total. Features sleevenotes by Bonzo member 'Legs' Larry Smith'. Lightning Tree. 2007.

What we all want
Johnny Heering | Bethel, CT United States | 07/13/2010
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is a compilation of old records from the 1920s and 1930s. Many of these songs were covered by The Bonzo Dog Band and those that weren't should have been. Most of the songs are British dance band novelties, but not all are. These songs are a heck of a lot of fun, especially if you enjoy the Bonzo Dog Band's versions of these songs."
