CD Reviews

A good trip to classical Disco heaven of the 70 `ths.

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Before computers, technical blip blop machines, there were bands which took you to disco heaven more or less. Boney M was one of these groups. This collection are troughly solid gold so to speak. It kicks right away with the mega hit Track 1 Rivers of Babylon. The humming choir in the beginning is very effective, and the vocal sings this hit song with a carribean touch on the drums, with guts and glory.

Track 2 Daddy Cool have a male vocal that makes it, yees quite cool to listen too. It`s rytmic and very danceable. A classical disko winner. Track 3 Sunny, is a lighthearted disco gem which shines. Simpel musical story line which spread it`s happy message right into your soul. Oh, yees it`s sunny, that`s for sure. Track 4 Brown Girl in the Ring has a "childish atmosphere" that`s not up to ususal Boney M standard, anyway a good listen. Track 5 Rasputin, has some kind of "russian folk music" atmosphere over it. Atmospheric, With a quite"cool" male vokal to lift it up above avarage. The soundpicture is straight to the point, and "disko effektive". Track 6 Ma, Baker is in the genre of what we can call"gangsta disco".

Criminal effective in other words. Track 7 Hooray,Hoorary It`s a Holi-day, is a more or less in the childish"humming" sing along genre of music. Track 8 Painter Man, is a rock/disko hybrid with some flair of soft heavy metals riffs here and there. Quite ok. Track 9 Belfast has a quite effective vocal, but the musical story line shows not to much creativity. Track 10 No woman No cry, is probably what we can call a hybrid between reaggea and disco, but has not the soul of Bob Marley. Average. Track 11

Mary`s boy child is a religions hymn, in disco land, and they also put in another hymn called Oh my Lord. Not my cup of tea, but if you info that kind of mood it certainly works. Track 12 Gotta go home, is the fast one on the CD. It`s rythmic and effective, but to little variations make it just average. Track 13 Still i`m sad is a lowpoint. This is a major letdown, and in the departement of boredoom. Yees, it`s a sad listen. Track 14 Nightflight to Venus, is the "sci fi spaceship extragavanza" song. It`s an eksperimental melody, but it work`s tremendously good. The drums does it, to keep up the high standard. Track 15 Felicidad, is the "synth blip blopper". It`s ok, but nothing more. Track 16 El Lute has an "Abba" soundpicture over it that helps it tremendously, but fall sometimes flat because of the irritating male vocal. 17. Baby do you wanna bump, is the weird and kitchy one and sounds like it literally.

Track 18. Kalimba de Luna, has a certain melodic touch, and a "popish" hit flair over it. Track 19 Happy Song, it`s not a too happy listen. A child choir, that doesn`t fit in at all. Track 20 is a mega mix of Rivers of Babylon,Sunny, Daddy Cool, Ma Baker, Rasputin. Same thing, with new wrapping, but here you have the hit songs mixed together if you preferer that kind of thing. This is anyway a very

good intro too "classical disco gold" from Boney M.
