CD Reviews

Bobby Vee and Snuff Garrett at the height of their powers
Kelly Izaj | Pittsburgh, Pa USA | 10/09/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Considering that I own more than a few of Bobby Vee's classic Liberty recordings (including an original copy of the TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY BABY LP), I know from experiance how good those recordings Bobby Vee made with producer Snuff Garrett were. The two albums presented here in this 2 on 1 CD from EMI (TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY BABY and A BOBBY VEE RECORDING SESSION) showed both Bobby Vee and producer Snuff Garrett at the height of their powers. Not only does this CD feature feature four of Vee's biggest hits: "Take Good Care of My Baby" (#1), "Run to Him" (#2), "Please Don't Ask About Barbara" (#15), and "Sharing You"(#15); this also features quite a few tracks that come off sounding like potential hit singles: particularly "Remember Me, Huh", "Go On" (a Roy Orbison original), "So You're In Love", "Forget Me Not" (originally recorded by Adam Faith) "My Golden Chance", and "Teardrops Fall Like Rain" (later recorded by The Crickets). There are also a few covers on the CD that come off as filler but three of those cover tunes - "Raining In My Heart" , "What's Your Name", and "Guess Who" - came off as very reverent to the originals thanks to Messrs. Vee and Garrett. On the whole, this CD gives one a taste of how good the artist/producer team of Bobby Vee and Snuff Garrett were during the early 1960's, it also makes one hunger for more."
