CD Reviews

The best jazz superband!!
Mario Rocha Guzman | Garza, Garcia, N.L. Mexico | 04/16/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In this cd you will find one of the best recorded jazz by sax maestro Bob Berg, He has recorded many albums but this cd encloses what mostly describes Berg's virtuosity. Not only him, but all the band is AWESOME, "You and the night and the music" is a clear example of this, the powerfull drum solo created by Gary Novak says it all. Al star alignment, including guitar virtuoso Mike Stern, Trumpeter Randy Brecker (Bob berg used to practice with his brother, Michael Brecker) David Kikiski and Ed howard. Buy it Now!!! I would buy this cd many times!."
Energetic music by a master musician and improviser
Gary Coffrin | San Jose, California, USA | 02/22/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Tenor saxophonist Bob Berg, born in 1951, is a master musician. He plays with the velocity of man at his physical peak, but has amazing technique. His rare combination of velocity and sophistication has made me into a big fan. This hard bop player has to be one of the master improvisers of our time. His tone and articulation reflect a fine mind with a superb technical command of the music and his instrument.

It great to hear jazz musicians play songs that have been popular outside of jazz. The Lennon/McCartney selection "Michelle" may seem an unlikely choice, but the playing elevates the tune to new levels.

The totally acoustic group plays with energy and commitment. Berg's plays with such energy and force that he will appeal to fans of 'free' and `fusion' jazz, yet the song selection and group's cohesiveness will resonate with fans of bop and hard bop.

The group is tight and energetic. And, Bob Berg just blows me away with his conception of music and his virtuosity."
Nice playing
Ricardo Erdos Cappon | Mexico city | 01/04/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"this is a nice CD my rating of 4 stars is because drummer gary novak plays over agressive at times , more of a fusion drummer than a jazz player , but very good indeed . kikoski and berg play beautiful as usual . very good arrangement on michelle ... in fact very good arrengements on all the tunes ."
