CD Reviews

More Than a Slight Return to Form
Agen GN Schmitz | Seattle, WA United States | 10/13/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I've been a Bluetones fan ever since I heard their first single, "Slight Return" on a trans-Atlantic flight and couldn't get it out of my head for 6 hours. I enjoyed the new wavey departure of their last album, "Luxembourg," but this album really gets back to the basics of their first album ("Expecting to Fly") and the poppier "Science and Nature." The wonderfully crafted, incessantly hooky tunes on this album bend perfectly to singer Mark Morriss' strengths of pure pop harmonies, and the arrangements are pretty straightforward throughout. But the boys break things up with a couple of guitar rave-ups (most prominantly the lead single, "My Neighbour's House"). This has instantly become my fave Bluetones album, and definitely one of my top 10 albums of 2006."
