CD ReviewsFull of folk Jared M. Lund | MN | 07/04/2010 (4 out of 5 stars) "I have to admit I have only listened up to the ninth track so far but I think I got the idea. I love the folksy acoustic tracks that B.T. sprinkle in their albums. They seem to be going more and more that way in their recent albums. You really notice the difference from Wild Mountain Nation to Furr to Destroyer of the Void, any ways I like it...for now. Dragons Song thankfully shakes up the album a bit comparing to the other tracks that just seem to pour from one to another which isn't all that bad. It's a decent follow up to Furr, the lyrics are fun and easy listening. Hoping for a completely different album for the next time around because what I love most about B.T. is there reckless volatility. Have to recommend if your a fan of B.T." Disappointing Follow-Up to "Furr" wm | ...onward....thru the fog! | 06/29/2010 (2 out of 5 stars) " Blitzen Trapper's breakthrough came in 2008 with "Furr", and for good reason. That record blended a heavy dose of Grateful Dead with infectious 60s sounding hippie stoner hooks and southern Gothic lyrics, which according to an interview with frontman and main songwriter Eric Earley were inspired by Faulkner, O'Connor, etc. Overall, "Furr" has passed the test of time, and much of it still sounds really good. I saw the band live twice during the "Furr" tour. Earley had an almost Morrison like stage presence. He and the rest of the Blitzens held the promise of even greater things to come, but sadly, "Destroyer of the Void" doesn't hold up to "Furr". I just saw them live in support of "Destroyer". They're still a tight band, but many of their songs lend themselves to improvisation and extended jams. Instead, the Blitzens are content to play most of the songs note for note just like they sound on the record. Having listened to "Destroyer" close to 10 times, I've tried my best to give it a chance, but in the end, agree with the reviewer below who said at most a couple of songs are worthwhile here. Like him, I'm afraid my copy of "Destroyer" will be up for sale in the short term." Somehow these guys have managed to combine elements of Dylan, Bowie, Queen, The Grateful Dead, and Tom Petty and create something uniquely their own."
