The voice is such a thrilling instrument that I sometimes forget just how beautiful it is. This recital contains all of the "German Opera Arias" LP release (her best recital ever), a separately issued recording of "Ah, perfido!" and the four Christmas carols she recorded for a Decca EP, all recorded in the early 1960s. Her version of Rezia's aria from Oberon ("Ozean") has never been bettered, even by Nilsson herself. The Wagner arias are superb, though she sang those particular roles (Elsa, Elisabeth, Sieglinde) less frequently in her career. This recording of "Ah, perfido!" is superior to her later recording for DG. The Christmas carols, accompanied by organ, are really lovely. Nilsson was certainly one of the very greatest singers of the twentieth century, and this recording is full of splendor."
