Synopsis

Album Description
Two CD set. Located in London's Soho district, Ronnie Scott's club was founded in October 1959 by British tenor sax players Ronnie Scott and Pete King. During its nearly fifty year existence, it received some of the most important American and European Jazz figures. This music recorded on July 21st, 1980 can be viewed as his musical testament, since Bill was to leave this world one month later. All night long, music burst out, like fireworks making some kind of apotheosis for this group that played so well together. This brilliant music was actually the product of a partnership ruled by love and respect. With a foremost and golden rule: being tuned into others. The last night on August 2nd, 1980 was electrical as well as passionate. It came as a musical consecration for two wonderful weeks at Ronnie Scott's. Marc Johnson, a musician to the core who had always been in love with Bill Evans' work reached a state of osmosis with the pianist's creation.

CD Reviews

The Complete Live at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club London 1980

(5 out of 5 stars)

"These sessions at Ronnie Scott's in London were magical and equal to if not better than those in New York and San Francisco during the following months. To call this two disc set "complete" however is a misnomer. There were 58 tracks recorded during the nights of this engagement and only 15 appear on this two disc set. Nevertheless, if one can't have all 58 the fifteen on this set are a must for anyone who needs to have everything Bill Evans ever recorded."
