CD Reviews

An excellent compilation of Chopin's works

"Although it is impossible to include all the best of Chopin on one CD, this disc is an unbelievably great buy. The 'Butterfly Etude' is one I hadn't heard before, but I loved it. "The Best of Chopin" will give you more than your money's worth of great piano performances. If you've never heard Chopin's works before, this disc is an excellent way to get well acquainted with them; it is dramatic, beautiful, and playful. Moreover, the price is unbeatable! A great find!"
My views on Chopin's works

"One of my favorite works among classical music are the ones by Frederic Chopin. The subtle and soothing music sets my mind on new heights. Chopin 's works always inspire and this cd contains his best works. The very essence of sentimentality and tranquiltiy with a gentle sort of excitement presents itself in this collection. I simply love it!"
This CD treads where few others dare...

"This is the CD I reach for when I'm commuting to school early every morning before the sun comes up. It's good early morning music, and not many CDs, even classical ones, can make the same claim! I especially love the Ballade no. 4; the opening is pure joy, then it gets playful, then downright cuckoo, sombre and back to soothing and joyful. Evgeny Kissin plays this with a certain immature playground boyishness that I find endearing, but I prefer Claudio Arrau on this particular Ballade because I like the tempo he uses, nice and slow. But this one is good, in fact it's my second favorite version of this Ballade. The only thing I would change about this collection is on the Marche Funebre, I would have used the section that everyone knows, the lento. And I would have Evgeny Kissin playing it. No one can touch him on the lento of the Marche Funebre. But if he were included on this CD, then no doubt it would cost much more than 2 bucks plus change! All in all this CD claims a part of my life many cannot, the early morning part! I unreservedly recommend this collection of songs by the great master Chopin whom I cannot and no one should live without; buy this CD and be enriched by his music performed quite well for a very reasonable price!"
