These performances feature highlights of the Manchester Music Festival's 20th Anniversary summer season. From the very beginning the Festival strove to combine excellence in performance. The Manchester Music Festival String Orchestra, heard on this disc by Eroica Classical Recordings, was formed in 1989. It has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and at Merkin Hall and the Cathedral of St. John The Divine in New York City. The orchestra tours the northeast annually. The Festivals summer subscription series has sold out for several consecutive years, and has presented world renowned artists, including Met stars Mignon Dunn and Jerome Hines, and instrumentalists Richard Goode, Ruth Laredo, James Laredo, Michael Tree, Bernard Greenhouse, Sharon Robinson, and Eugina Zukekrman. Summer events are now followed by sold-out fall and winter concerts.
