CD Reviews

Barbara is perfect as ever
Romeu França | sao paulo, sao paulo Brazil | 01/18/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"It is not the first time that Miss Hendricks goes in this kind of repertoire. Many years ago with the Labeque sisters she gave us a marvelous Gershwin (she did another Gershwin years later), then came the Spirituals (no words) and the master piece Duke Ellington, a tribute. Now she (re)visits Billie Holiday's songs which is a very difficult task, amost a quest a would say. But Hendricks is not somebody just singing or showing technic, doing show-off and those sort of things. For her, singing is a serious matter and she gives her voice and soul to that. She Knows what she is doing and why. Every song is a delivery, a tribute to Billie. Arrengements are perfect as always. It seems this is one ofthe major preocupations of Miss Hendricks. The result is wondeful music, proving that you can do more than operatic stuff. If you are really good, you can do everything. And Miss Hendricks is one of them. By the way, her Spanish Songs, are fantastic too. Last but not least, I almost forgot her album on the Diney's songs, another must"
