Synopsis

Album Description
2009 two CD set containing a pair of albums from the above-average Scottish Funk band: Person To Person (1977) and Warmer Communications (1978). Person To Person was originally released as a double live album and features blistering versions of their classic songs 'Person To Person', 'Cut The Cake' and an 18-minute version of 'Pick Up The Pieces'. There two bonus tracks not originally on the album: Joe Zawinul's 'Walk Tall' and a previously unreleased version of 'I'm Gonna Make You Love Me. Warmer Communications, recorded with producer Arif Mardin in Miami, went Gold in the US and features another classic AWB instrumental in 'Sweet And Sour' which was nominated for a Grammy in the Best R&B Instrumental category. Edsel.

CD Reviews

Doin' "Old School" right!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"For me and a few of my friends AWB's songs represent some of the finest "Soul" Music from the '70s. So...when this set was released this spring I had to have it.

What's inside? Person to Person was the Double Vinyl live set that I used to play songs from each week in the late '70s as a dance DJ. There are excellent live versions of AWB classic's like School Boy Crush,Cloudy and TLC to name a few. Also are the groups homage to the Motown Classic "I heard it through the Grapevine" and now in this reissue, two more fun songs including "I'm gonna make you Love me".

Warmer Communications was the studio album that followed Person To Person, and I played the Title song on many Saturday Nights as well.

If you are for some reason or another unfamiliar with the "Average White Band" but you enjoy a fusion of Soul and Jazz (Funk as it were) you will be amazed at this work, so do yourself a favor and try this set out!"
