Excellent starter kit
Santa Fe Listener | Santa Fe, NM USA | 09/21/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Dvorak is so enormously popular that DG could dig into its vaults for second-best recordings and still come up with winners. Karajan didn't have a special affinity with this composer, but his New World Sym. is big and lush, and extremely well performed by the Berliners. The Dumk Trio from the Beaux Arts is expert, if not very Czech in feeling. The same can't be said of Kubelik's 8 Slavonic Dances, which are sizzling and very Czech. HIs Carnival Over. is probably the best thing on this bargain two-fer, while Marriner's Serenade for Strings is probably the weakest, a pleasnat reading but not much more. In all, this is a satisfying starter kit for anyone who wants to find out about this most lovable of composers."
