Different, Wonderful Music from Karajan

"I had purchased this CD from Germany a year ago when it was initially released. I was always interested in international music and thought that this recording, being performed by arguably the greatest conductor-orchestra (Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic) relationship during the 20th century, would be top notch; my hunch turned out to be correct.

The music itself is amazing. Each of the pieces has its own flavor and cultural identity attached to it. The CD provides national anthems from the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, France, iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, and Greece, as well as the Royal Anthem of Denmark, the European Anthem [arr. Karajan], the 5th movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony and Puccini's "Nessun dorma!" [performed by Domingo and the Wiener Philharmoniker]

The sound is full, crisp, well-balanced and superior. I would highly recommend this recording - it may not be on the American market for long."
