CD Reviews

Excellent disc of new flute music
C. P. Cooman | Cambridge, MA USA | 09/27/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This disc is a fine sampling of works for solo flute and flute and piano. Laurel Ann Maurer is one of the finest flautists today specializing in new music.

Of special note on this recording is Augusta Read Thomas's wonderfully evocative "Angel Shadows" and Lowell Liebermann's energetic and very popular "Sonata for Flute and Piano." The disc is beautifully played and contains some works well worth having in every music library."
Worth buying because of Thom Ritter George's folk songs.

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Thom Ritter George's "American Folk Songs" are quite appealing -- almost brilliant -- and make this CD worth buying and listening to. I have to admit that some of the more modern pieces on this CD appeal to me a lot less. Overall though, this CD is worth the price, and the two musicians (flutist and pianist) featured on the CD perform with musicianship and competence."
