CD Reviews

Awesome! Simple as that.

"Okay, folks, here it is. An Andrew W.K. pounding away at the keyboard like a kid would at any age. But guess what, he's great as being a pianist. He's also great as a musician. I'm kind of bummed about the "shortness" of the length of the cd, but the songs are worth it. If there are any tracks that I recommend it would be......Tracks: Track 3 - Night Driver, and Track 8 - Cadillac. And with some tracks I just love the catchiness to them. Just about every track has something to go on when you look for catchiness.

Track 8 "Cadillac" is nothing short of amazing. Since it says on the cd S.S.P.I. (Spontaneous Solo Piano Improvisations) I'm not sure how Andrew W.K. did it on the last track. There's guitar, there's piano, a great mix. But would the guitar sound be on the piano, or just thrown in to give it that anthemic flair? But wow, does it ever work. There are no vocals on "55 Cadillac", but there is just one vocal, and Andrew W.K. says "Cadillac" at the very end of the last track.

People may be put off by this cd just because there's no words and no songs like Never Let Down, Party Hard, Long Live the Party, etc. But it's just Andrew W.K. playing piano. Nothing more, nothing less.

The only downside, and it's a small downside at that, is Andrew W.K. goes a little too crazy with the piano, and really does sound like a kid pounding away at a keyboard, but when he's focused into making a song, he's focused."
Brilliant album from a gifted, um, artist?

"I have no interest whatsoever in Andrew W.K.'s usual style of music, and I can't possibly imagine how he made the leap from trashy party rock to avant garde piano music, but am I ever glad he did. I honestly wouldn't have even expected to find an album of solo piano work that didn't bore me, but there's very little on "55 Cadillac" that doesn't work for me. It's hard to imagine that these are improvised pieces, because they are beautiful, complete songs that generally seem thoughtfully composed - not just random, meandering playing. Because I love the whole album, I kind of hate to admit that "Cadillac" is my favorite track. I certainly hope that Andrew does this sort of thing again, but I hope he expands on the sound with more instruments and makes it a bit edgier, as he does on that track. I don't suppose the guy's going to drop his other persona and become a full time composer, but I hope this isn't his only attempt at this kind of music, because it's wonderful.

Kudos to Amazon for recommending yet another great album that I wouldn't have found otherwise!"
