CD Reviews

True Band, True Music, True Rock
Tidbitter | 11/15/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The review below by Bob Shaffer is so misguided, please do not take it seriously. First, American Minor is obviously not alt-country, they are not marketed as such and do not claim to be, so do not listen to this album expecting this or you will be disappointed.

Secondly, to say that a band such as the Kings of Leon (who was a group of guys gathered by BMG, given pre-written songs and put into tight clothes hoping to capitalize off of the Strokes fortune) is the real deal shows that the reviewer does not value the true musicianship of a fine rock and roll band who creates their own personal music straight from their experience growing up in West Virginia.

I have to agree with Zachary when he says you must go see them live. Having seen them live many times, I can say that their live shows are stellar. Bud, their lead guitarist, truly unleashes his abilities when he is live and always blows away the crowd. I don't know when they are touring again, but when they do, make every effort to get out and see them, you won't be disappointed.

If you're really looking for a comparison with other bands, think Bad Company and Big Star. If this reference doesn't help you, then get albums from these guys too!"
Extremely Stong for an Introductory EP

"Can't say I hear any John Cougar Melloncamp or Kings of Leon in this EP....What I hear is a band aiming for the stars...like Guns & Roses and the Black Crowes before them...do they fall short of the greatness they are trying to achieve (the greatness of bands like Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, and the Beatles)? Yes...but the stick is much higher than the bar being raised by their contemporaries.

Full of great guitar work, great lyrics and melodies...this EP is much stronger than the EP's released by the Strokes, the Kings of Leon, and Jet before their debut records. It's refreshing to hear a band with no gimmick except great songwriting (and it's a shame that this is a gimmick in this day and age.) Where's the album?"
Don't listen to a college kid that don't dig "the cougar"

"Obviously that guy doesn't have a clue about rock'n'roll...this e.p. is just a taste of the great things to come from this band.

The overated Kings of Leon and the Bottle Rokets wish they had the chops the Minor have. So in conclusion if you love rawk with no b.s. pick this disc up you will not regret it, also they don't take no mess live go see 'em!
