"This is an amazing album. Drawn from early in their career, this set captures the Quartet in their prime, before their later period when critics would accuse them of sentimentality.

On the contrary, while the musicians here are sensitive, both to the compositions and each other, the musical conversation is challenging and vibrant, exposing the searing intelligence of the composers and the masculine presence and camaraderie of the artists. Simply astounding interplay. Listen to the Beethoven all ye doubters."
