After breaking up in '81, the four surviving original members, Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe, reunited for a 20th anniversary tour in 1989. The results were so unexpectedly good that the band decided to stick together and have released their fourth post-reunion album, Where It All Began. Why did the Allmans' reunion succeed where so many rock and roll reunions have flopped? This is really a fantastic album from a fantastic band. All of these songs sound like the logical follow up to the great 70's classic albums the band has released. For me, the song that really shines on this album is change my way of living. It is a song that I listened to off and on and one day it hit me. I could not stop listening to that song. The slide work is phenomenal. This album shows what an integral part of the band Dickey is. I saw AB a couple of years ago without Dickey and it was like seeing half the band. Don't get me wrong, There are enough Greg Allman songs to make a great show, but the show would have been better with DB there. If you like the Allman Brothers you will like this album. As it turns out, Seven Turns to this day is my favoriite album by them. Shades of Two Worlds has some strong material but, for me, wasn't nearly as compelling. I didn't wind up getting Where It All Begins until 2009. What a knucklehead! this album is excellent and is nearly as great as Seven Turns. Songs like Soulshine and No One to Run With are gems. This was the last album with Dickey Betts and his contributions are strong, too. Great album you can play over and over again."
