Great Remixing by an Up and Coming DJ
Luis Hernandez | New York, New York, USA | 04/14/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Produced in conjunction with Centaur Music and HX magazine, New York City's largest weekly gay magazine, "The HX Project" is the first in what will probably become a series that will feature some of the city's hottest deejays. In this first installment, deejay Alex Lauerstein displays his amazing remixing skills on this two-disc compilation. The Uruguayan-born Lauerstein has been an up and coming dj ever since he left South America and headed to New York in search of fame and opportunity. His style is very techno, not trance, and his work on this compilation will surely earn greater recognition not only here in New York, but worldwide. While both discs are great, I enjoyed listening two disc one more. On this disc, Lauerstein does an amazing job on his remixing of such tracks as "Psychopath" by Saeed & Palash (track #7) and "Evil Stepsister" by The Relief featuring Ralph Rosario (track #8). On Disc two, both "He Lives in You" by Lonnie Gordon (track #10) and "Take Me Higher" by the Kings of Tribal (track #8) ranks as that disc's best tracks. If you are a big fan of the New York deejay scene, I highly recommend trying this album. It is not an anthem album like so many gay compilations are, however it does compile some of the best beats I have heard in a while. I hope to see many more HX compilations in the near future. For now, try this one out."
