CD Reviews

Keys, Cars, and Guitars

"The Adventures of Jet is truly one of the most underrated bands of our time. Hop Litzwire (Lead Vocs, Keys) told me that this band has gone from being laughed at for using a keyboard during a time when other bands weren't, to being told, "Hey, you use keyboards too? You're copying Rooney." Yeah, this is one of those great bands that for some reason never got the props it deserved, like Jellyfish or Dramarama. Unlike Jellyfish and Dramarama, AOJ is still making records and rocking out. You still have a chance to jump on the bandwagon and give this band the respect they deserve. Muscle is AOJ's latest and greatest. If you like catchy, hooky power-pop this is for you. Muscle is a concept album. Granted it's not a deep-thinking concept album a la Flaming Lips. This is just an album that surrounds the theme of muscle cars and drag racing. More than that, it's a ode to carefree days gone by. The melodies are catchy, the guitars are crunchy, and the keyboards are the glue that holds it all together. This is a solid album from a band you've probably never heard of. If you like bands such as: Rooney, Motion City Soundtrack, Reggie and the Full Effect, etc. You should like this album. AOJ predates all of the bands I just listed, so you owe it to yourself to listen to the real deal. Trust me, AOJ gives the best treatment of the synth-driven power-pop sound since Ric Ocasek and The Cars invented it."
Just another vote with the majority

"I don't have really anything to add that hasn't been said in these reviews here already. But I did want to add yet another positive review cuz this album is killer. From opening to closing. It may not hit you on the first listen, but by the third, fourth, or fifth time through you'll be hooked. If you like AoJ's last album, Part 3: Coping with Insignificance, then you will like this album and vice-versa. In fact, if you have one and not the other, then do yourself a favor and pick it up. Now. Oh yeah- if I had to pick a favorite track, it would probably be Fairlane. Just my 2 cents. Take Care."
AOJ is power synth at it's best

"This is an amazing album, it is a theme related record related to the muscle type cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The album has the power keyboard sound that AOJ is famous for. What makes "Muscle" so outstanding is that it has great songs that are really catchy and just rocks. The opener "Number One", is a power instrumental that sets the stage for incredible pop songs that follow, but this is not the pop on the radio; but power synth driven songs with a punch. Most of the songs talk about cars and drag racing along with losing girls and talking smack. Do yourself a favor and buy this album today. If you like The Cars and Weezer then you will enjoy AOJ. AOJ continues to produce quality albums while pop robots everywhere miss out. It's their loss and the real music fans gain."
