CD Reviews

COTU hits the Bullseye!
Linda Utter | Adrian., MI | 10/23/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Everything you love about power pop is here! The hooks, the melodies, the harmonies, the sounds that move you, both physically and emotionally.

This CD has been on constant play since I got it last week. In the case of Admiral Twin, diversity is a huge strength. They do a lot of things, but they do it all with the same high quality execution. The sweeeet sounds of "Good As Gold", with it's optimism and lush harmonies. The rhythmic bite of "Smash It Up". The two sides of love expressed in "I Confess" and "If Hell is Like You". Lyrical puzzles tied in melodic threads of "Renegade Planet", "Big Black Car", and "Fear". The cautions of "Monument" and the warmth and hope of "Get Well Soon". The Center of the Universe takes on many meanings here. The famous Tulsa auditory landmark, our little planet in the grand scheme, each of us as we relate to the parts of our world that touch us, and our perception of our spiritual place. As usual Admiral Twin can entertain us and challenge us to think about these things at the same time. This is my #1 Best of 2007."
What a Comeback!!!!

"Something happened between Admiral Twin's "Mock Heroic" (2000) and "Creatures of Bread & Wine" (2003). Namely, they tanked and very nearly dropped off my radar. Thankfully, 2007's "The Center of the Universe" finds them at their most adventurous, harmonious and diverse. Pop, pop rock, power pop and one or two pop ballads. All three members are attributed with writing all 15 songs and the trade-off of lead vocals between them really makes for a great CD through and through. It's good to have them back. If you're a Hoodoo Gurus fan, you should really check out Admiral Twin. Blow Your Cool!"
