"This track is low key compared to "Get Another Plan," but it really grows on you. The lyrics have the same biting cynicism as their previous release with lines like "You drove me insane/But I didn't complain."If you like Abstract Truth's "Get Another Plan" single (or the EP which doesn't include this track), you should definitely check this one out. If not, it might be better to check one of those first. This single features five mixes of "(We Had) a Thing." The first four are cleaned up for radio. The fifth track is the original "raw" mix. A minor point of criticism is how they "cleaned up" the track. Instead of replacing the word in question with another word or replacing the entire line, they simply drop out the word in the mix. This makes it sound like something is missing. In the future, it would be better for the producers to employ a more "seamless" method in their radio-friendly mixes. While just shy of "Get Another Plan" in overall quality, "(We Had) a Thing" is nonetheless a fine track that shows the Abstract Truth is definitely a group to watch. Its mellow funky groove is very infectious."
