CD Reviews

An injustice: This review for the Abby Travis Foundation

"The guidelines tell us not to review unreleased items yet, so I won't tell you that what I've heard from her upcoming release "Cutthroat Standards & Black Pop" is the type of music that makes you believe that maybe modern music doesn't just consist of boy bands and ditz-girlies who can't even write their own songs, but that there is instead a glimmering hope in the shape of Abby Travis. No, instead I'll comply with the rules (this time) and review the Abby Travis Foundation. It seems that the music and the lyrics are in direct contrast to Abby's incredible voice. Harsh guitars, lamented love, and cries against injustice cover almost every second of this album. For anyone who hasn't lived, ever, this trip might be a bit disorienting but well worth it. There isn't a description suitable, really. It sounds like a cop out, but I'm not one to be lazy. Abby looks wonderful and sounds even better. With her ability to write music (all but one of the tracks are written entirely by her), I'm certainly glad that we will probably be hearing much more from this lady in the future."

"My jaw sure got used to the feel of my floor after hearing this album. That's the spirit Abby! With a sound remenescent of early Zepplin and a voice that reminds one of the great Rosemary Clooney, Abby Travis has put together an incredible collection of songs that can each stand alone. Unlike many other famale singer songwriters she stands out from the music itself. Its not a quality that can be taught. Few albums made in the last ten years can impress me. This one shocked me. I eagerly await her next release."
