Making a comeback!

"Although a-ha made their first comeback 2 years ago in Europe, they have yet to make a second impact in the US market. Let's hope that changes with the release of this new single and forthcoming album, "Lifelines" (to be released overseas next week.) "Forever not Yours", the title track on this single, comes from the "Lifelines" album, and is produced by Stephen Hague, of New Order and Pet Shop Boys fame. It has that synth-pop sound, and a catchy keyboard riff, although with a modern edge. After listening to the song the first time, it seemed a little "light", but after multiple replays, it grew on me. It's a slightly dancy, mellow-ish pop song, basically. The keyboard sound that wraps around the whole song definitely stays with you - and not in a bad way. The vocals are also a key focal point in the song, primarily because lead singer Morten Harket still has his characteristically strong pipes. The second song on the single, "Differences", is in demo format - quite a contrast from the highly-produced "Forever not Yours"- and it's also quite melancholy, where "FNY" is still not so cheery lyrically, but has that upbeat, pop sound. The two songs juxtaposed like that is interesting and lends to a unique listening experience. The final two tracks on the single are taken from a-ha's European tour last year - these two in particular are from their reunion performance in Oslo. If you're an a-ha fan, you'll recognize these songs immediately. Performed very well live, and with a great production quality, they're a great way to round out the single. Contrast the new songs with the old. However, I do not like the crowd participation aspect of "Hunting High and Low" - it gets to be monotonous and boring. (That's why I only gave this 4 stars instead of 5.) Anyway, this single is a must for all a-ha fans (and I know you're out there!) If you're curious to find hear the "New A-ha",... Pick this up - it's really good!!"
