Little gems of the keyboard!
Hiram Gomez Pardo | Valencia, Venezuela | 03/13/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"One of the most interesting facts to pay attention around the piano music in the first decades of the last century was the special emphasis and worriment of many composers respect the music for children . The French composers held the baton in this sense, we may realize that Claude Debussy (and Maurice Ravel in lesser extent "Pavane for a dead enfant" ) were the harbingers in the XX century with his famous Children's corner and his Prelude "The girl with the flaxen hair". As a matter of fact, in the XIX century, Georges Bizet had already composed his well known "Games of children", Gabriel Faure the "Dolly" Suite and Camille Saint Saens with "The carnival of animals" , while Tchaikovsky ("The nutcracker"), Nikolai Rimski Korsakov (Scherezade and the flight of the bee) Gustav Mahler (The angelical and delirious Fourth symphony) , on the other hand, Robert Schumann devoted part of his creative intellect about "Children Scenes" and his famous piece "Album for the youth" and Joseph Haydn with delightful symphonic works such as "The bear" or "The schoolmaster" until Leopold Mozart with his "Symphony toys" , without forgetting Vivaldi with his celebrated "Third flute Concerto."

But Dimitri Kabalevsky and specially Serge Prokoviev (Peter and the wolf) dedicated part of his compositions around the innocence ages with these pleasant and enraptured piano pieces that simply focus around these missed years. The curious of the case is that precisely these compositions were made precisely in the most relentless years of the well known fist of iron ruler (J.S).

Richard Gresko made a notable contribution in order to contribute and let it know us about these lovable and for most, practically unknown pieces for the keyboard literature.
