I used to synthesize DNA on a machine. Also ran machines for DNA sequencing, protein sequencing and synthesis, and analytical machines too. Lots of machines. Retired from all that.

After that, I was a working partner in a winery for eight years. I learned how to care for the fruit trees and grapevines, I cleaned the ditches that brought water to the orchards and grape fields, I picked weeds, I picked fruit, I filtered wine, and pumped it from tank to tank, I bottled and labeled and sold and inventoried the stock. Unfortunately, even though I was a partner in the winery, I never made any money at it; I was only paid in shares. When we had to close it down, we sold off everything to pay the bills. The property and building were sold off too, but it was an interesting experience, and I sure learned a lot about wine.

I also do background acting for the movies and TV shows shot in New Mexico. I take acting classes and audition a lot for speaking roles. Sometimes I get a small part in an independent movie or TV pilot.

When I'm not doing those things, I hike up the mountain and have lunch at 10,400 feet above sea level. I read as much as I can when I'm not busy. I collect coins, mostly silver ones. I watch movies. I take photographs on my hikes, and elsewhere, and sometimes I sell them. It's nice to be retired.
