This is an ideal KMFDM album for both the fan and the uninitiated alike. Led by mastermind Sasha Konietzko, the band's defining elements are on full display: staccato machine rhythms, languidly angry lead vocals, choruses of female backing vocals and lyrics full of vague calls to action. "Money" and "Sex on the Flag" are trademark KMFDM techno-metal with good guitar riffs, while "Help Us/Save Us ..." and "Bargeld" are imaginatively programmed and rigidly soulful. The adventurous "Spiritual House" and satirical "We Must Awaken" add diversity to the album's overall feel. Also included are alternate versions of some songs (including "I Will Pray," a version of the band's classic "Godlike"). --Mark McCleerey

Although they weren't as essential to the development of modern industrial music as, say, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, or Front 242, Germany's KMFDM have pretty much been around since the inception of the genre. In their infant days they may have been clanging on metal pipes like country mates EinstÜrzende Neubauten and using animal intestines as stage props, but through the years they've mastered the art of guitar-augmented industrial dance music, experimented with thrash metal, and become one of the few modern industrial acts to still create original, cathartic music with electronics. For the uninitiated, Retro is a nice introduction, mixing the razor-edged riffing of KMFDM's latter-day discs Xtort, Nihil, and Angst with the earlier drum-machine barrages of UAIOE and What Do You Know, Deutschland? --Jon Wiederhorn

Sister Machine Gun was started in 1990 by Chris Randall. He made one record for Wax Trax!, three for Wax Trax!/TVT, and one for himself. They're all pretty good, if you like that sort of thing. All of his records would certainly go under the heading of "critically acclaimed", but other than that, it's hard to pin a style on the music, which sounds like a strange cross between The The, Nine Inch Nails, and the Rockit-era Herbie Hancock. We prefer to call it "neo-industrial-dada-funk", but you're free to call it whatever you like. Sister Machine Gun's fifth album, [R]evolution, is independent recording at it's finest - everything a band can be when it has full control over it's own destiny. Recorded over most of 1998, the record was released to the SMG fan club in April of 1999, and to the general public in May of 1999.

2008 digitally remastered edition of this classic album including new sleeve, new notes and one bonus track: 'Infant Joy' Originally released in 1999, The Jeopardy Maze is Attrition's best selling album. Mainman Martin Bowes' complex electronic production and lyrical insights are joined by the superbly crafted viola of Franck Dematteis (of the Paris opera) and the stunning voice of regular singer Julia Waller. A culmination of everything the band had achieved so far, the album brought in all of Attrition's influences: from dark ambient to classical to industrial dance pieces - resulting in an eclectic album of atmospheres and extremes.
