This triple CD release was mixed by Om family members Chuck Love, Groove Junkies, and DJ Fluid and features chunky, funky, soulful, and sensual house, hand designed for your summertime aural pleasure. Groove Junkies have crafted a style influenced by soul, funk, r&b, gospel, and Latin rhythms. Pumping grooves, uplifting lyrics, and undeniable hooks are their signature elements. DJ Fluid, founder and head honcho of Om, creates his diverse sound from combining everything from Chicago House to Nu Jazz to Brazilian rhythms. Chuck Love (aka Charlie Erickson) found his calling behind the decks and mic where the groove is musical and solid; good vibes flow out of the hi-fi as infectious hooks float, smoky chords punch, and solos fly.

In an era when bands aping the worst of New Wave are considered chic, it's rather startling to hear the dance, funk, jazz and lounge influences behind THE BALDWIN BROTHERS' second album, THE RETURN OF THE GOLDEN RHODES. Wildly diverse, yet consistent, Chicago's own Baldwins bring the groove. "Give `em a Hand" is pure 70s funk with a slight electronic makeover; "Swing Along" goes more retro, mixing an Austin Powers-like vibe with a lightning quick rap from female rapper Sarai. R&B, soul and Kraftwerkian beats also permeate the album, and the dreamy, Moody Bluesish closer, "The Party Is Over," is a welcome surprise... in part because of the guest vocal appearance by underground rock icon Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens Of The Stone Age). Other featured guests on this album are Lisa Kekaula (The BellRays, Basement Jaxx) and The Wreacked Train (Lo-Fidelity Allstars).

Minnesota-born and ex Paris-dwelling chanteuse Alexandra Hope's debut album, Invisible Sunday, finally sees the light of day after years of honing her craft on the stage. She got her start in Minneapolis opening for acts diverse as Don Cabellero, Elliot Smith, and Idlewild. After entering the French music scene as a complete unknown, Alexandra's brand of breathtaking guitar/piano based gothic folk-rock quickly found success attracting a local following and getting airplay on French radio. Recently relocating to New York City, Alexandra enlisted to the help of David Muller (Fiery Furnaces) to help record her first album. Invisible Sunday is 9 tracks of sheer bliss recalling glorious "girl group" Phil Spector-isms, Francoise Hardy, PJ Harvey, early Liz Phair, and even the 90s drone rock of Sonic Youth or Helium. With a minimal approach to recording, this bass-less collection of song features Alexandra on guitar and vocals, while Muller plays drums and piano throughout. Despite the nature of the folk genre, people are often taken by surprise how sonically fierce her music can be.

<img style="margin:4px 10px 10px 0;" src="http://ca.sacdstatic.com/s/61/1361/331361.jpg" alt="Happy End of You (Rmx)" border="0" align="left"></img>
So what happens when one DJ (in this case Pizzicato Five's Konishi Yasuharu) sets out to honor the craft of his fellow DJs? His fellow DJs then turn around and return the favor. Remixes: Happy End of You is a collection of interpretations of P5's Happy End of the World as concocted by such visionaries as St. Etienne, Dimitri from Paris, 808 State, Gus Gus, and more. 808 State lead "Trailer Music" through some industrial drum and bass maneuvers; Gus Gus take the eerie, sprawling, and hypnotic "Porno 3003" and turn it into a subterranean earthquake; and Dimitri from Paris's treatment of "Contact" spins like an all-night retro beat party, calling on disco, hi-NRG, house, and techno-pop to rework the cut into a celebration of the dance decades. The Automator, DJ Dara, Oval, and John Oswald also manipulate Konishi on this collection. --Steve Gdula

On this CD, the fourth in the comp series, Barfly's resident DJ, JC Sindress, creates an ambiance of deep soulful house, & an infectious feeling of ecstasy & energy. Digipak.
