Formed in the late '90s by guitar player
Damien Paris and drummer
Andrew Totolos, unapologetically loud rock quartet
the Giraffes combine the power of
the Melvins and
Corrosion of Conformity with the hedonistic attitude of
Black Flag and
the Circle Jerks. Bass player
John Rosenthal and vocalist
Aaron Lazar joined in 2002, recording two self-produced albums (Helping You Help Yourself and A Gentleman Never Tells) in the band's home studio, which was conveniently located under a Hasidic dry cleaner. They signed to Razor & Tie in 2004 and released their self-titled label debut the following year. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide
