Brian Brain was a short-lived pseudonym used by
Martin Atkins early in his prolific career as a drummer, producer, label head, and all-around studio rat. Their/his releases featured
Atkins playing most everything, save for the occasional contribution from bassist
Pete Jones and keyboardist Bill Surgeoner (
Cuddly Toys). As
Brian Brain,
Atkins released his debut single, Another Million Miles, in July of 1980 -- shortly before making his first stage appearance under the guise. Signed to Secret, the long-playing Unexpected Noises was issued in August of 1980. Prior to apparently retiring the
Brian Brain alias, the Culture EP was released a couple months later. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
