Album Review
Universal International's Colour Collection features a branded die-cut digipak (hence the name) and ten random Deep Purple songs. Later cuts like "Unwritten Law" and "Bad Attitude" aren't bad, but they're not buffered by DP classics (there's no "Hush," "Highway Star," or "Woman from Tokyo"). Even the inclusion of "Smoke on the Water" is poor, as the live version featured here pales in comparison to the studio rendition (and even some other live versions). Fans looking for a "fair and balanced" Deep Purple anthology should pick up either Rhino's Very Best of Deep Purple or the mammoth four-disc Shades 1968-1998 box. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide
