Album Review
The Music for Lovers series from EMI and Blue Note spotlights the balladic nature and romantic side of artists who have recorded for its associated labels. Sarah Vaughan, of course, was a superb ballad singer, capable of floating virtually every emotion associated with love, whether it was warmth and joy or excitement and enthusiasm. Her volume includes material recorded between 1960 and 1962 when she was on Roulette, and although it wasn't a banner point for her career, she rarely recorded poor songs. Two come as duets with Joe Williams, and she also works with Barney Kessel, Quincy Jones, and the arranger Lalo Schifrin. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
