Album Review
Big Joe Turner had the ability to turn every song into the blues. He displays that skill on this loose Pablo session (reissued on CD) during such nonblues songs as "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter," "I Can't Give You Anything but Love" and "You're Driving Me Crazy." In addition to a four-piece rhythm section of obscure but compatible players, Turner is joined by trumpeter Jake Porter, Roy Brewster on baritone horn and Curtis Kirk on harmonica. A slightly off-the-wall set that stands apart from most of Turner's Pablo dates. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
