Album Review
Although Jimmy McGriff temporarily switched labels from Milestone to Headfirst in 1990, his brand of swinging funk and blues-oriented jazz was virtually unchanged. Utilizing a quintet that includes the reeds of Bill Easley, trumpeter Stanton Wilson and guitarist Rodney Jones, McGriff explores a wide-ranging set filled with originals and such tunes as "The Way You Look Tonight," "America the Beautiful," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and a medley of "One O'Clock Jump" and "C Jam Blues." The results are predictably excellent. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
