Album Review
Earthy british folk-rock revivalists Fields blend the lushness of early-'90s Brit-pop with the pagan unease of 1973's Wicker Man soundtrack. The Birmingham collective's debut EP 7 from The Village shows great promise for the young band, channeling the classic sounds of Pentangle, Fairport Convention, and Comus with an eye for the pastoral landscapes of contemporary acts such as Boards of Canada and Animal Collective. Somewhere between the driving "Songs for the Fields" and the electronic-tinged "Roll Down the Hill," Fields have captured a new view of the English countryside that successfully pays tribute to both the stone ruins that litter its windswept hills and the radio towers that loom so confidently above them. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide
