Album Review

Flip, Flop and Fly is a comprehensive compilation of Big Joe Turner's Atlantic material recorded between 1951 and 1955 which produced 12 Top Ten r&b hits and two chart-toppers, "Honey Hush," and "Shake Rattle and Roll." Rev-Ola's track listing repeats the majority of songs from Atlantic's Big Joe Turner's Greatest Hits, omitting a few exceptions that were released after 1955 and adding two versions of "Oke-She-Moke-She-Pop," one recorded in Chicago, the other in New Orleans, "You Know I Love You So," and the Doc Pomus penned tunes "Don't You Cry," and "Still in Love." Rev-Ola did a great job with both remastering and packaging which includes Dave Penny liner notes and several rare photos. ~ Al Campbell, All Music Guide
